Tara leads a group of Alexandrians to Oceanside. Gregory resents Maggie's growing authority. It was only a week ago that they left this floor when everyone started dying.
Apparently a lot of people were living up here, because there are quite a few zombies to contend with, and quite a few sick people downstairs.
The rotten, hollowed out faces and emaciated frames only came with time. Now apparently you turn and are immediately as decrepit and wasted away as the zombies who turned years ago.
Go figure. This scene would have been a lot more effective if they left these fresh zombies looking more human. Al gets to the roof but decides not to meet Isabella.
Maybe the risk is just too great. Maybe she genuinely wants to protect her from the plague. Beer is what saved them in Season 4 from the poison.
One of the worst characters ever introduced in this show was a brewer. There was even that beer hot air balloon. But most beer, especially bottled beer, probably would have gone bad by now as Dwight and Al discover earlier in the episode.
Strand and Madison did just that back at the hotel in Mexico, but that was before the new showrunners took over and made it all about beer.
And she finds more than just beer in the crates. Why is the CRM landing on this building and leaving valuable supplies laying about with nobody guarding them?
Beer and antibiotics just free for the taking? They just shoot the guy they see up there without bothering to ask if he has companions?
And the only time anybody goes up there to investigate is while the helicopter is there? Yeah right. Over and over again. None of this is plausible.
Nor is it at all certain that late-stage bubonic plague could be effectively cured by antibiotics. Of course, the most ghastly implausibility of all comes the next morning.
She wants to know if everyone is okay. When the zombies show up and cut off their escape, it leaves Glenn and a seemingly redeemed Nicholas to start a fire and save them.
This tension progresses throughout the episode, as the number of zombies in the horde grows, and every detour or twist or turn leads to a dead-end and a precarious climb to safety for both Glenn and Nicholas and Michonne and her crew.
As the show unwinds, it becomes more and more apparent that someone important is going to die, and no matter how much you root for Daryl to show up and save the day or Rick to show up in the RV to get everyone to safety, it never happens.
Last chance…. The death of Glenn was phenomenally well done. No such luck this time, and as hearts are eaten, hearts are broken. However, Glenn dies for what he believes in, kind of.
He believes that Nicholas is a new man, redeemed, capable of contributing. On a different show, perhaps Nicholas would have proved himself.

Where are all these batteries coming from? They power the flashlights that are constantly in use. They power the cameras. They power the walkie talkies.
Surely nobody is still manufacturing batteries. They can reach pretty much however far the writers need them to reach. Everybody has one.
The sheer coincidence of Sherry and Dwight running into each other after all this time in the middle of nowhere Texas is already a ridiculous stretch of plausibility, but to have it occur via walkie talkie is just insulting.
Imagine all the other ways this could have happened. For one, having Dwight find some sort of clue and use his intelligence and resourcefulness to track her down would have helped negate the sheer level of luck this version employed.
I was also puzzled by the reunion scene itself. I swear, this show could be so much better if they would just strip it of all the little conveniences that make the writing feel lazy and half-baked.
No more walkie talkies, period. Or at least not from such long distances. A walkie talkie can theoretically work for many miles, but as soon as you start introducing buildings, weather, hills and trees and so forth, that range is slashed to maybe just a couple of miles.
The ones in this show apparently work across the entire state of Texas and beyond. No more cameras. No more constant video-taping of everything.
Make resources scarce, including things like batteries and flashlights. New characters, some very inventive special effects, chaotic zombie action.
The show knows what we want, and it gives it to us. The show has been improving since that second season. The action quotient has been increased in spite of budgetary limitations.
The writing has become drastically better, opting to show much more than it tells. The direction has remained good to great, thanks in no small part to upgrading certain folk such as Gregory Nicotero to rotation status.
Even the actors have gotten better, partially due to adding good character actors into the mix and the general improvement of familiar faces like Andrew Lincoln and Melissa McBride.
Ad — content continues below. The previous two episodes of The Walking Dead have ended on cliffhangers, but not the frustrating sort, the exciting sort.
Normally, I can avoid the urge to binge-watch things, but all I want to do is binge-watch the rest of this season, or at least the next few episodes until things start to calm down as they inevitably must do.
When last we left Alexandria, Carol was conducting a one-woman war on all manner of thugs. That remains to be resolved. When we last left Rick and company, half their horde of zombies was heading in the wrong direction, following the sound of the honking semi horn to the mostly-defenseless Alexandria.
The chaos of the zombies leads to chaos among the very people trying to control everything. Rick, Glenn, Michonne, and the rest are faced with a choice: complete the mission or run home to try to save the people of Alexandria?
Looks like Glenn and Maggie are in for some interrogation while Michonne informs Rick and the prison group about Woodbury and, presumably, Merle and the Governor.
Will Glenn and Maggie make it out alive? Will Andrea learn about their presence? Will Daryl want to rush off to reunite with Merle?
Will Rick attempt to get his people back by force or will he try to reason with the Governor to reach some sort of mutually beneficial arrangement?
