One person found this helpful. I was a little hesitant about this film because of the number of 1-star reviews.
But, I read them and thought that some of them didn't think everything through. Yes, when you first bring up the Blu-ray the film runs in Danish.
But, if you pull up the disc menu, you'll find that you can switch to everything being dubbed in English.
That being said, I thought that it was very realistic. The action was not as good as it may have been. Or maybe the cast was told to underplay things.
The cinematography was great. I have been watching a lot of foreign films lately because, quite frankly, a lot of the stuff coming out of Hollywood is over-the-top, CG laden crap.
I find that there are some outstanding films coming from Scandinavia, Canada or even Russia. Many critics have wrote that this is one of the best war movies ever made, and I agree.
The movie is about Danish troops who, as part of their commitment as NATO members, risked and gave their lives in what was, to first order, the defense of the USA.
By 43 Danes had sacrificed their live, in fact, doing this. I did not find it a problem that the sound track is in Danish, with English subtitles, even though I do not understand Danish.
As I put in the headline, the movie makes no attempts to teach or drive you towards an answer. It presents a situation where the audience can see all sides of an incident and is led, naturally, and through great storytelling, to come to their own conclusions on what is right and what is wrong.
Throughout, you become attached to the characters and their very real and human stories and I was moved to the point of tears on several occasions.
I think what is so powerful about the movie is that I was, in the end, unable to decide upon the ultimate question portrayed during the film, and yet still feel like the movie had a very conclusive and powerful ending.
It will keep me thinking for a while. I'm a two war 12 yr vet and take care of my fellow veterans for a living. I am moved by this film and its outstanding acting.
I'm also unsettled, sad, angry, but most of all, filled with love and compassion for all who laid it on the line and did their absolute best, grounded by a selflessness that so few could ever fathom.
Quarter the way through it I started to hit the 10 second forward button. Seems it does not take much imagination to figure out what was going to happen next in the next o seconds or so.
No one argued the Taliban were using the civilians as cover and may have killed the civilians beforehand. John Wayne wouldn't know what to make of this movie.
It portrays the heroics and dilemmas of combat and its aftermath at a human scale and without the black-and-white viewpoint so many war movies adopt.
It is a film populated by realistic characters instead of caricatures. A young officer goes to Afghanistan and faces the inevitable. If you think there was a hidden message in this movie: Don't trust your chain of command- then you got what this movie is about.
It takes years of training to be able to think when everything goes to crap. I thought the civilian female prosecutor getting gutted by the experienced defense attorney was an excellent turn-about.
I gave only four stars because the part where the young officer's superior sells him down the river to save his own bass was only implied.
Still a good movie and highly recommended viewing for young lieutenants facing their first tour in the "Graveyard. See all reviews. Why not add spinners?

You mean those shiny things to look cool? I rather be invisible and surprise my enemies. Go ahead, put more distinctive stuff on your tanks, paint them red to be extra "cool" We shall see if you get any tactical advantage from that.
And then, the top reward is a low tier vehicle with purple lines. Why not add spinners? Not cool?
