Jax accepted and invited him to the clubhouse that night. This was a set-up, however, to punish him for not having his SOA tattoo removed after being disowned by the club.
At the clubhouse, Bobby lured Kyle into the garage by saying that he wanted to show him his new motorcycle. There, they tied him up and Tig used a blowtorch to burn off the tattoo.
They then used these guns to ambush a prison convoy and free one of their members, Frank Cison. A police officer and two civilians were killed during the assault.
Meineke dropped his cell phone at the scene, and his last calls had been to Clay Morrow. When the ATF found the phone, they arrested Clay and raided the clubhouse.
Clay was later released because no evidence was found, meaning he could no longer be kept in custody. Meanwhile Jax, Piney and Opie Winston decided to kill Meineke and his gang to stop them "snitching" if they were apprehended by the authorities.
They pretended to sell them more weapons. The boxes of guns were actually filled with explosives, however, and the militia loaded their trucks with them.
All of the militia were killed when the bombs were detonated. Opie, Bobby and Jax then went to the hotel room where he sees his African American mistress.
Opie was supposed to shoot him when he left the room, but froze and Bobby stepped in and shot him at close range with a silenced pistol.
Opie lost his job at the lumber mill and began working as a mechanic at the Teller-Morrow Automotive. His marriage also began to deteriorate further.
Bobby, Piney and Tig started a brawl at a local bar and most of the town's small police force had to go to the scene to break it up.
This gave Jax and Opie an opportunity to break into the police station, with the help of Unser, and free Cherry.
Luann stayed behind because the ATF had given her and Otto a deal. After Bobby was arrested for the murder of Brenan Hefner, the ATF took Opie and his family to a safe house and payed off his debts in order to make him look like an informant.
The real witness was Hefner's mistress, however. Opie was released after two days and he returned to the clubhouse to show that he was not the snitch.
Clay and Tig still did not trust him, however, and they searched his car and mobile phone for recording devices.
They found microphones which were planted by the ATF without his knowledge. Clay and Tig then decided to kill him.
The One-Niners attacked, however, and they were forced to flee. During the ensuing shoot-out, Tig tried to shoot Opie but found himself unable to.
That night, Opie, Donna and the children attended a party held in celebration of Jax's baby son being released from hospital.
When they left, Opie took Donna's car to take the children home and Donna took Opie's pick-up truck. Tig followed the pick-up in his car and shot Donna dead, believing that Opie was driving.
The last episode of Season One ended with Donna's funeral, which was attended by Sons of Anarchy from all across the country.
Although it was not shown, it is likely that Opie was arrested for Hefner's murder after the funeral. However, it is unlikely that he was convicted as Jax threatened the witness into leaving the state, and the case was built entirely around her statement.
In the First episode of Season Two we see Opie returning from a road trip after Donna's funeral and that he is still mourning the death of Donna.
He has yet to find out that Clay ordered the hit and that Tig carried it out. Clay leads them to believe one of the Mayan's members killed Donna, which leads to them hunting one of them down.
He is about to get the truth of the matter from the member, when Jax pulls him off. He distracts Opie while Tig shoots the Mayan in the mouth.
Opie shot him in the head, and carved the Anarchy symbol into his chest, to send a message. He has recently acted apathetic, reckless, and brooding.
In the 2nd episode of season two, when the Mayan's ambush the firearms deal with the Niner's he breaks from cover to singlehandedly kill several Mayans.
In the 3rd episode of season two, he was willing to go head on against several Aryan Brotherhood drug dealers until Half-Sack stopped him.
He even go so far as to use high-explosives with fuse instead of remote detonator to blow up a meth lab. Jax even asks him at the end of the episode if he has a death-wish to which he coldly replies he's putting in more for the club now that Donna is dead.
Recently, he has begun to develop a friendly relationship with one of Luann's pornstars, Lyla. While others seem to look down on Lyla because of her profession, Opie connects with her because much like him, she is also a single parent who is struggling to make ends meet.
He trails Stahl and find that she is covertly dealing with Chibs. At a surveillance point, Opie was able to corner Stahl and threatened her with a pistol, wanting her to feel the pain he has felt since his wife's death.
Knowing the possible consequences, Opie decided not to kill Stahl. Opie returned to the clubhouse where he made peace with Clay, telling the members present at the table Clay, Jax, Tig, Bobby, and Juice that the truth about Donna's death was to never be discussed again.
He revealed that he saw Chibs with agent Stahl, but was able to convince Clay that they should hear Chibs' side of the story before making another rash decision.
When Piney attempted to shoot Clay, Opie defended his father and convinced Clay to be forgiving. Opie rebuffs Jax's offer to sit at the table due to Jax's decision in keeping Clay at the table.
Clay visits Opie and convinces him that Jax needs him at the MC. Opie arrives at the clubhouse just as Jax, Tig Trager and Chibs Telford are being arrested for murder.
Opie punches the sheriff to ensure he is kept close to Jax. As he is about to sacrifice himself, Opie headbutts the prison guard and is taken to fight to the death.
Despite initially putting up a good fight, Opie is outnumbered and eventually overpowered and beaten to death by a prison gang while Jax and Chibs watch on through a window.
Jax vows to get revenge against the prison guard for the death of his friend. Ryan Hurst portrays Opie on Sons of Anarchy. Hurst's portrayal of Opie was met with positive reviews.

However, the apple never fell far from the tree with Harry, and like his father, the young man would quickly find his place in the Sons of Anarchy by the time he was sixteen, having run away from his mother to return to the club.
Meeting and falling in love with Donna, the two were quickly married and were soon blessed with the birth of a son and daughter, Kenny and Ellie.
However during a commission to blow up a truck yard belonging to a rival gang, fate had in-store a cruel twist. Having been left high-and-dry by Kyle Hobart, who was supposed to help Opie get away, Harry was soon arrested on site by police.
His conviction for arson came quickly, where he was sentenced to five years. After his eventual release from prison, Opie came out a somewhat changed man.
Determined to prove his worth to Donna, and his children, the man made the conscientious decision to try and live life on the straight and narrow.
However earning 'clean' money from a job at the lumber mill paid very little, and with increasing pressures from his wife as well as ever rising debts, Opie struggled between a dedication to his wife and a longing for his former life within SAMCRO.
Coupled with the further enticement of his brothers to return to SAMCRO in a more hands-on capacity, it wasn't long before Harry finally succumbed to the life he once led.
Eventually talked into returning by Jax, Opie ends his 'half-in-half-out' mentality with the Sons, and threw himself into all of SAMCRO's activities, both legal and illegal.
Sinking further into the club, it is during one of Clay and Tig's secret plans to get the Mayans and One-Niners to turn against each other and incite a war between them where Opie is forced to kill for the first time.
With the plan failing, and one of the One-Niners gets the drop on Tig, Harry resorts to killing the gangster.
Unfortunately for every one, but especially Opie, the increase of violence brings Charming under the interests of the ATF. Targeting the recently prison released Opie as a possible weak-link, Stahl conspires to have his brother's turn on Winston.
Taking both Harry and Donna in for questioning, they hold the couple for an undetermined amount of time. With no sign of Opie, those within SAMCRO, especially Clay and Tig, are left with the impression that Winston has turned on them, having known of his struggles between the life as a brother and the life as a husband.
Opie immediately returns to SAMCRO upon his release to explain his side of events, hoping that his honesty will show him as trustworthy.
Though Clay gives Winston and those at the table the impression that he no longer has any doubts over Opie's integrity, Tig convinces Clay that Opie is now a threat to them, and the two conspire to kill Opie.
The arrest surprisingly brought Donna and Opie closer together than ever before, ironically, Donna even began to see herself as part of the club.
It was after a night of socialising with those in the club that Donna would be inadvertently murdered by Tig, having mistaken her for Opie.
Opie fell into a deep depression following the death of his wife, that had been blamed upon the One-Niners as retribution for the Sons' attack on them.
Riddled with guilt, Opie becomes emotionally distant from his children, and becomes entrenched in the more violent operations of the club.
Twisted and used by Clay, Opie becomes a much darker man, and even finds himself arguing with Jackson over the heading of the Club.
Falling into a relationship with Layla, a porn-star and single mother, Opie's world is again shattered by the revelation of the guilt-ridden Tig, who finally confesses the truth of Donna's death to the mechanic.
Opie's anger comes full-circle, yet somehow the man is able to stem back his tide of hate and stops himself from killing Tig and Clay, forgiving the two-men for the sake of SAMCRO, with the club close to fracturing.
This change in Opie brings the man out of a dark period in his life, and actually helps him to keep the dream of he and Jax leading the Sons alive.
Persuading Clay into to forgiving both Chibs and and his father, Piney for transgressions against the club, Jackson and Harry secretly plan to bring the club away from Clay's brutal tendencies.
With the abduction of Jackson's son, Abel, and the death of 'Half-Sack', Opie continues to try and be a source of strength for the troubled charter, yet with the ATF circling, and trouble with the IRA rising, even Harry is not immune to the pressure and struggles.
Now battling with his inability to accept his lover's career in the adult entertainment business, Opie almost incites a full scale war with the Chinese Triads.
However with crisis averted by Clay, and after a conversation with Gemma, Opie suddenly proposes to Layla, who accepts. Opie executes Stahl by shooting her in the back of the head with a MAC, explaining to her that is how Donna died, and following shows physical relief for having finally gotten revenge against the female.
For the next fourteen months, Opie helps to lead the charter keeping the club afloat, establishing the updated supply line of Irish weaponry and even patching in new members.
Reluctant to enter into a deal with the drug cartel, fearing what his incarceration or death would do to his new family, Opie conspires with Jax into thwarting the vote.
After Donna is murdered, Opie spirals into depression. He starts to become more distant from his children, by crashing at the Club house where he bonds with Lyla, a porn star.
They later form a relationship together, and Opie wants her to leave the porn industry. When the club starts exploiting its porn connections to entertain Henry Lin's clients, a furious Opie starts a fight with Lin's clients.
This ultimately leads to the club losing out on a major deal. During this confrontation Stahl breaks down crying and begs Opie for her life, to which Opie responds, "This is what she felt.
They return to their hometown of Charming, California where they are disturbed by the sight of signs for a new real estate development in their quiet town, spearheaded by the town's new mayor Jacob Hale, Jr.
On their way into town, they encounter the town's new sheriff, Eli Roosevelt , who together with Assistant U.
Attorney Lincoln Potter has convened a secret task force to shut down the club's gunrunning operation. During the wedding, Jax and Clay kill Russian mob boss Viktor Putlova , while other members seize the Russian's guns and use them to wipe out the rest of the mob.
Opie discovers birth control in Lyla's dressing room. Angry that she is sabotaging their attempts to conceive, he sleeps with Ima. Lyla arrives at the clubhouse to find Ima leaving Opie's room.
Opie says that he did it because he found her birth control pills, and when she admits to having an abortion, he tells her that he is leaving her until she decides what she wants.
Jax lures Ima into her dressing room and throws her against a table, warning her to stay away from his family and the clubhouse.
As the gang votes on the future of Clay's presidency, the clubhouse is attacked by the Lobos Sonora cartel, who drop off the severed heads of two SAMTAZ members, including club president Armando's.
One cartel member is captured in the attack, but the Mayans are hit simultaneously, losing three men and a truck full of drugs.
Piney demands that Clay withdraw the club from the drug business, threatening to deliver John Teller's letters to the club if he fails. Later that night, Clay arrives at Piney's house and kills him, scrawling the signature of the Lobos Sonora cartel on an old photo of the Sons of Anarchy's founding 'First 9.
Tig, and Opie turn to Lyla for help locating Georgie Caruso to punish him for inadvertently helping Hale. As they stuff him in the trunk of a car, he admits to sending men after Luann, but only with the intention of roughing her up.
Tig and Opie fill his car with bullets. Opie takes the tow truck up to Piney's cabin and finds his father dead.
Unser follows him to the cabin and tells him that Clay is the man responsible. Opie's trust in Jax and the club is broken as he seeks revenge.
He later arrives at the club and shoots Clay twice. In an attempt to stop Opie, Jax shoots him in the wrist, and takes him to his home, where he stays hidden.
