From metacritic. Yes No Report this. Add the first question. Country: USA. Lucky MacKee does it again, this time with Chris Sivertson.
At the end of the film it is suggested that a sequel may be expected. I'm hoping for a string of them! I won't waste time here.
The only thing missing is an appearance from the ghost of Vincent Price. This is a remake of a film the producers sent straight to video because they couldn't get it distributed.
Better to have left it mummified. Film school effects. Awful dialog. All of the girls especially are way, way, way too old to be portraying high school cheerleaders.
In short, it's dreadful. It almost seems they stopped by the nearest Hooters style restaurant, loaded up a van of the servers and decided to make a movie.
Save yourselves from this. Finally, I've dug my way out of screeners for filmmakers and studios, and I'm able to review this one.
I've been a fan of director Lucky McKee since his 2nd film, May. Most notably, he's the man behind The Woman, which came out in and made a name both for itself and him due to the graphic violence depicted, and all around being a very good movie.
When I found out that Lucky was doing a new film, I instantly tweeted to him asking him three reasons people should watch All Cheerleaders Die, and he replied: These reasons weren't necessary for me, as I had already intended on renting it on VOD.
And, unbeknownst to most, All Cheerleaders Die is Lucky's remake of his very first film of the same title. No one picked up on it being a remake because no one had heard of the original, which was a low-budget effort.
All Cheerleaders Die starts off in a shocking way, and I didn't expect what happens at all. It's brutal in a turn-your-head way, but yet it's actually funny for some reason.
I think the humor part comes from thinking that the cheerleaders deserve something nasty to happen to them, if only for their uppity and rude attitudes towards others and those less fortunate.
After the devastation of the head cheerleader dying, the squad has tryouts. Without much appeal, Maddy Caitlin Stasey is promoted and given the part.
Leena sees this as a bad omen of things to come. When some football players discover that Maddy and Tracy Brooke Butler are hot for each other, it turns into a volatile situation that ends in all the cheerleaders dying.
Only, they don't stay dead. They return to life after their blood touches Leena's psychic stones. When they awaken, they don't remember right away what happened, but they know something isn't right.
They can feel it. And, they're hungry like never before, resulting in them eating a neighbor. Right before one of the jocks can confess to the involuntary manslaughter of the entire cheerleader squad, the girls show up to class looking perfect and ever-so-sexy.
This brings surprise of good and bad to the faces of the football team responsible. The jocks are as rude and unlikable as the worst of the cheerleaders are, making it easy to wish them painful deaths at the hands of the zombified girls.
However, the football team starts seeing weird things like the girls' lower backs glowing green, and know that something weird is indeed going on.
Before the entire team is taken out, the girls' secret is exposed. The jocks fight back making the cheerleaders the victims yet-again, and it becomes an undead battle to permanent death for some of them.
When the lead jock, Terry Tom Williamson decides to digest all of their collective power, he becomes the true enemy who must be stopped.
And, he wants Leena to show him how to use her stones that brought the girls back to life in the first place. He must be stopped, and his death is more than deserved.
The ending is a cliffhanger, which I did not expect. There's good news with that though; there's going to be a sequel! I really hope a part 2 happens after the way this one ends.
Summing it up, All Cheerleaders Die is funny, over the top, sexy, gory, and all around entertaining. Lucky McKee does it again with another solid effort!
This movie, the title, the front image, the synopsis, the whole American cheerleader thing, not something I'd jump into with enthusiasm.
But I read the reviews here, each one saying they were surprised by the movie. They're right, this is a great movie.
It's a little fun, it's a little lighthearted. The plot isn't bad in fact it develops quite well with hidden little surprises.
It's not a perfect movie but compared to many of the other recent horror movies out there it's enjoyable. It's different and in the horror world that can be enough.
TdSmth5 13 September Some girl who doesn't like cheerleaders is filming some documentary about them, following the main cheerleader around.
That one is one bitchy chick, who dies a hilarious death while showing off on video during practice.
So what does Maddy, the cheerleader-hating girl do? Audition for dead girl's place. Also following them around is a wiccan chick. And of course you've got to have the football players, one uglier and more obnoxious than the other.
Maddy gets the now-main cheerleader, Tracy, to think that her guy, one of the football players, is cheating on her.
She insults him via text. He doesn't understand but gets angry. During some evening soiree out in the woods, the girls are hanging out in one area, the guys in another.
Maddy seduces Tracy who when she sees her guy attacks him verbally. He punches her brutally. When the girls leave in their car they fall down a cliff and die.
The wicking girl resurrects them with her magic crystals which embed themselves into each of the girls. And indeed, they come back to life. In the case of two sisters though they awaken in the other's body.
Quickly they realize that they need human blood to survive and that they are somehow connected. When one of them lusts or hungers, the others feel it too.
Of course they will have to take revenge on the guys who are stunned to see them walk around school when they saw them die the night before.
But it won't be easy as the woman-brutalizer who apparently owns the football team even though he isn't the quarterback, figures out what is going on and uses that knowledge to his advantage.
Lucky McKee continues his quest to show Hollywood that he's the most feminist filmmaker of feminist filmmakers. Aside from the standard obnoxious demonization of men, or in this case, boys, All Cheerleaders Die is a well-done and somewhat original supernatural horror movie.
Of course a movie like this depends entirely on the girls, and Caitlin Stasey and Brooke Butler make it work. The lovely Amanda Grace Cooper is a revelation.
What doesn't work though is some of the male cast and characters starting with the atrocious villain. I also would have preferred a different actress to play the witch.
You know, witches can be hot, too. They don't all have to look weird and creepy. A more serious problem though is that you have a campy movie about cheerleaders but with almost no nudity.
At least there's some kissing among the girls. Also annoying is the push to try and sell us a soundtrack CD by constantly adding some completely out of place music that rarely fits the scene.
Still, I enjoyed this movie and look forward to sequels. Definitely not the suck fest I was expecting. I Liked the characters I was supposed to and disliked the ones I was supposed to.
Plenty of plot holes and the dialog was "odd" at times, but I laughed more at the jokes and less at the movie. The pleasant surprise was there was not a ton of nudity and even more surprising was the lack of cussing.
Someone tell Seth Rogan is can be done! I believe there is going to be at least one sequel and I will definitely be renting it as well. Spoiler Not crazy about the ending.
Having it a tad happier would have been better. UniqueParticle 10 June Super duper weird and sexy B-Movie! A group of young dumb cheerleaders use witchcraft after getting bullied by several boys and use supernatural craziness to kill them off.
Decent cheesiness, not worth praising, although the ending is epic! Totally loved this movie since it gave me the same chills and thrills from the said TV series with some sex scenes in it too.
Damn those cheerleader outfits were hot! The fact that they died turns them all into whores. Uh huh, OK, its not really that relevant to the plot but its still very pleasing to watch.

Don't repeat my mistake! HorrorQueen17 27 September This latest release from Lucky McKee, the man who brought us the fantastic The Woman and the very original May, and co-director Chris Sivertson The Lost strays from their more serious tone and delivers us a new take on the slasher movie.
The story centers around Maddy, a high school student, as she attempts to infiltrate the slimy world of cheerleading and jocks at her school.
After a very memorable opening the story flows along at a great pace, never feeling bogged down by itself but avoiding feeling rushed, and the audience is kept interested with some nice plot developments and twists.
The actors do a solid job all around, and in particular the female leads are way above par for this type of production. Caitlin Stasey did a great job as Maddy, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing her develop her career, hopefully in horror.
Okay some of the SFX look a little basic, but the movie didn't have a huge budget and it really doesn't detract from the film. We are treated to some of the silliness that is expected of a film from this sub-genre, and of course not all of the decisions the characters take are logical, but the way the film is made is reminiscent of some of the best teen horror of the 90's, which for me can only be a good thing.
The biggest plus for me is that the directors have imbued a definite feminist slant into the movie, which is something I absolutely love, and something that can be found in Lucky McKee's other work.
In a similar vein to Chastity Bites also recommended , the directors have taken a familiar concept and updated and revived it, to provide audiences with a fresh angle, and I think making horror, particularly slashers, more empowering to women can only ever be a good thing.
The obligatory teen-horror tropes are there, the pretty cheerleaders, the jocks, making the whole setup feel comfortingly familiar to those of us who are partial to a good slasher.
But McKee uses his talents to nicely subvert the traditional 'pretty girl gets slashed to bits' thread and provide us with an entertaining watching experience in the company of some female lead characters who seem distinct, more than mere stereotypes.
You grow to like them, particularly Maddy, Caitlin Stasey's character, which is more than can be said for many female characters in slasher movies.
Maddy and Leena in particular appear to be rounded characters, with something about them which will hopefully provide strength of character for the next installments of this.
The gore was minimal but well done, and the adding of supernatural elements to a traditional slasher film really worked.
Think The Craft meets Friday the 13th but updated for the 21st century and that is what All Cheerleaders Die feels like. It won't revolutionise the horror world, and it certainly isn't 'serious' horror, but if you're looking for a movie to have a laugh with, and one that is a little different from the norm, then you could do far worse than All Cheerleaders Die.
I've waited a while before I finally tried this, heeding warnings like 'chick flick', 'silly FX' and 'terrible soundtrack' and lots of low ratings, but the title and the fact that Lucky McKee is one of the directors I just couldn't wait too long.
Let's go over those warnings first. On the other hand, I understand that this will not be for everyone in the hands of the wrong director, this could have failed terribly.
Anything else? Hot chicks galore Brooke Butler! Lucky MacKee does it again, this time with Chris Sivertson. At the end of the film it is suggested that a sequel may be expected.

Great story line. Well worth the money. Thank you! It started off extremely typical but I'm glad I kept watching. It's got witchcraft, revenge plots and some fairly decent gci and graphics.
The cinematography was way better than I was expecting too. It's not some great horror fest, but overall worth a watch. I liked this movie for what it was.
It combined a good mix of 80s style teen horror with under tones of darker psychological themes and a hint of witch craft. I never expect much from the acting in movies like this but the character Leena did a good job.
A good choice if you want some classic teen drama mixed with horror, that uses cheesy acting and gore to cover up much darker psychological themes about high schoolers social societies.
See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. At the end it says that this was Part One, indicating that there will be a sequel, not something that I'd get too excited about.
Great title though. Report abuse. A funny story and well told. Great film although a little strange. Interesting effects. Good comedy horror.
